Carla Bruni's iconic shot
Does anyone remember this shot of Carla Bruni by Helmut Newton (how could anyone who's seen it, not, come to think of it), which ran in Vanity Fair back in the day? It's a classic. And speaking of Carla Bruni, did you see her in the Christy Turlington documentary, Catwalk, I posted a while back? It's 1992, and Christy, Naomi and others are all partying at Carla's in Paris. Worth a check-out.

The Louboutin factor
I read the Christian Louboutin piece in Vanity Fair by Vanessa Grigoriadis last night. It didn't really tell me anything I didn't already know about the guy, although I did have a "whoaaaah" moment when he described the phenomenon of fathers coming in to his stores to buy their daughters their first pair of heels: "...what you're seeing is that the father wants to be the first one to see his daughter in heels - the first one to fuck the daughter."
It also made me chuckle when he said how much he hates dirty shoes. Once, after I'd interviewed him, he signed a pair of my CL black pumps, which had definitely kissed more than their fair share of London pavements. If he was disgusted, it didn't show: He signed the soles, "Danielle, la belle". No wonder women love him.

The new issue of Vanity Fair

Just been reading the latest issue of Vanity Fair, with Tina Fey on the cover. It's the first time in ages I've enjoyed that magazine. The Maureen Dowd piece on Fey was brilliant - that woman is the biz - but the thing I liked best was the report on YSL's art collection, which Pierre Berge is going to sell next February. The apartment where Yves lived is on rue de Babylone in Paris, which is where I lived for a while myself! If only I'd known... Mick Jagger lives in the same block, too. What a concentration of glamour!
